Monkey Mojito
5 minutes
1 Servings
Medium
Instructions
Ingredients:
2 ounces banana rum (or dark rum with a hint of banana liqueur)
1 ounce white rum
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup (adjust to taste)
6–8 fresh mint leaves
2 ounces club soda
Ice cubes
Lime wheel or wedge, for garnish
Fresh mint sprig and a thin banana slice (optional garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the Glass:
Place the mint leaves and simple syrup in a sturdy glass (such as a highball). Gently muddle to release the mint oils without shredding the leaves.
Add Citrus and Rum:
Pour in the fresh lime juice, banana rum, and white rum. Stir lightly to combine the flavors.
Add Ice:
Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill the drink and dilute slightly.
Top with Bubbles:
Add the club soda and gently stir once or twice to integrate while keeping the drink light and refreshing.
Garnish:
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge. For the “monkey” twist, add a fresh mint sprig and a thin banana slice on the rim.
Notes:
Flavor Balance:
Adjust the sweetness by adding a little more simple syrup or lime juice depending on your preference. More lime will brighten the drink, while more syrup will emphasize the tropical banana note.
Mint Tip:
Gently muddling the mint releases its aroma without making the drink bitter. Avoid over-muddling.
The Monkey Mojito is a playful tropical variation of the classic mojito, blending the refreshing lime-mint profile of the Cuban original with a subtle banana flavor. The result is a bright, cooling cocktail with a fun island twist.
For variations, substitute coconut rum for the banana rum to create a Tropical Mojito, or add a splash of pineapple juice for extra fruitiness. A dash of bitters can also add depth while keeping the cocktail refreshing and balanced.
