Instructions
Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces bourbon (or rye for spicier notes)
3/4 ounce honey-ginger syrup (see note)
1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 ounce Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur
2 dashes orange bitters
Ice cubes
Garnish:
Lemon twist
Edible gold dust or gold leaf (optional, for a luxurious shimmer)
Instructions:
Prepare the glass:
Chill a coupe or rocks glass by filling it with ice while you mix the cocktail. Discard the ice before pouring.
Build the cocktail:
In a shaker, combine bourbon, honey-ginger syrup, lemon juice, Grand Marnier, and orange bitters. Add ice.
Shake:
Shake vigorously until well chilled (about 15–20 seconds).
Strain:
Double strain into the chilled coupe or over fresh large ice cubes in a rocks glass.
Garnish:
Twist a lemon peel over the drink to release its oils, then drop it in. For a dramatic effect, lightly dust the surface with edible gold or float a small piece of gold leaf.
Notes:
Honey-Ginger Syrup:
Combine equal parts honey and water, add thin slices of fresh ginger, simmer for 5 minutes, then strain. Adjust sweetness to taste.
Flavor profile:
This cocktail balances warmth (bourbon), brightness (citrus), gentle spice (ginger), and subtle luxury (gold accents).
Presentation tip:
Serve in a clear glass to showcase the golden hue, enhanced with sparkling reflections from gold leaf or dust.
Variations:
Smoky Twist: Use a small amount of smoked bourbon or lightly torched ginger syrup.
Citrus Forward: Replace lemon juice with a mix of lemon and orange for more bright citrus notes.
Bubbly Upgrade: Top with a splash of champagne for a celebratory Golden Eye Royale.
